Thought for Today: October 1, 2008
"Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine."
Proverbs 3:9-10
I remember our brother Cyril while he was still seeking for a job that I told him about giving to God a portion of his first salary - that we consider it as the firstfruit of his labor - and that he should somehow honor God with it. I remember though that I haven't really emphasized the importance of this proverb that somehow, though Cyril did gave a portion of his salary, I think it didn't even passed the OT (OLD TESTAMENT) regulation of a tenth (tithe) which is basically the basis for giving. Somehow, I am thankful that today, God reminded us again of HONORING him with our WEALTH (Riches and/or Substance). "Honor" means glorify as well as giving much burden into (basically surrender one self and consider it a very heavy responsibilty - glorifying or exalting it above), thus, it's very important that we appropriately give part of our income to God, via the church - I believed, as well as to the brothers in need as a sign of our Honoring, and this could result into an abundant and overflowing blessings from YaHWeH God and as implied in Hebrew, it would give us success as well as completeness and satisfaction.
I know it wouldn't be that easy, you know, surrendering our finances to God when we already had listed our bills to be paid and our credits as well. SOmehow, it's a decision we need to take as well as test of our faith. It is my prayer then that we would have the courage and the strength to learn the art of giving and honoring God with our income, for us to truly received the true blessings from Him - success, not just financially but in our entire life... as the word shalom would perfectly describes it.
Hope we would learn to live in the beauty of giving. Honor God with our wealth and we will be satisfied with Good things from HIm.
God bless yoU!!
