Psalm 23

A psalm of David.

 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
       he leads me beside quiet waters,

 3 he restores my soul.
       He guides me in paths of righteousness
       for his name's sake.

 4 Even though I walk
       through the valley of the shadow of death, ^[a]
       I will fear no evil,
       for you are with me;
       your rod and your staff,
       they comfort me.

 5 You prepare a table before me
       in the presence of my enemies.
       You anoint my head with oil;
       my cup overflows.

 6 Surely goodness and love will follow me
       all the days of my life,
       and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
       forever.

I think this is the most familiar chapter in the whole Bible… a lot of faithful Christians can memorize this psalm. Melody was even created for it to be sung. The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want!  

Today, we are gonna delve a bit deeper to the wonderful truths that is associated in this marvelous psalm. It started with the recognition of the God as the Shepherd! As we study the life of the Good shepherd and the Sheep, we will realize that shepherding is not a SIMPLE task. Somehow, truth to the fact is, when we call God our shepherd, we recognize ourselves us sheep, and when we try to examine what a sheep/lamb is, the first thing we will know it that, it is HELPLESS and totally DEPENDENT. To whom? To the SHEPHERD. Thus, as David wrote this Psalm, He was trying to declare that he depended his life to God who is gonna be the one LEADING him… with God being the Tend-er,  then, he (David) will be going a right track. As we recognized God to be our shepherd, let us then acknowledge the fact that he will be the ONE to GIVE US BETTER LIVES – he makes me lie down on GREEN pasture and leads me beside the still waters… that’s a fact! A lot of people (parents in most cases) seek for Green Pastures. When we look for a job or transfer into another job with higher compensation, we reasoned that we transfer because we wanna have GREENER pasture. Many people go out of the country and work abroad to have GREENer pasture. I wonder if they truly have understood where the GREENEST PASTURE can be FOUND??? You know the answer. Green pasture also connotes GRASSES, hehehe, that’s PASTURE basically – rice, wheats, corn – in short – our BASIC NEEDS! He will LEAD US TO HAVE WHAT WE BASICALLY NEED, he will provide us food! Now, HE leads me beside still waters – OK, basic need again – food and water – it is life! The two should go together for us to be HEALTHY…amen? Yep! We all needed water and food, and God can provide that all to us as we trust in Him to be the one who will LEAD Us. He restores my soul and leads me to the path of righteousness for his namesake. God will not be careless as many thinks at times that GOD DOESN’T CARE. He is the only one who can refresh us with tranquility, peace and security and will lead us to a life lived for Him because he won’t leave us helpless and won’t forsake us, He will restore us. If we are broken, when we fear, when we down, when we fall back, when we are far way off – God will RESTORE us BACK to him! As we recognized God’s leading, then we will walk in his righteousness and He will help us to do so, for his name sake! Though I walk through the darkest valley, I will not fear for you are with me, your rod and your staff they comfort me. There is always gonna be time in our lives when we are troubled, hurt, confused, struggling, afraid, and don’t know what to do… we are absolutely in the DARK – we could not understand what’s going on in our lives and why this is happening and so and so…. God says, TRUST me, fear not! As the shepherd GUIDES the SHEEP, he guides them with HIS ROD and STAFF. The Sheep just follow the SHEPHERD. Whenever they will pass in a valley of darkness where they can’t see a thing, the only THING that comforts the sheep knowing that they are still on the right track is the ROD and STAFF of the Shepherd! The sheep will be comforted knowing that the rod that strikes them tells where they should go and comforts them telling them that the SHEPHERD is just right there even though it's dark and they see nothing. That’s applied true to us as well. At times, when the lamb/sheep cannot get straight, he/they will be beaten by the staff, it is not a hard strike though, and knowing that the shepherd just wanted his sheep to walk right, then the sheep will eventually follow the direction of the shepherd via his rod. So it is with us, at times, we lost directions, we don’t know what to decide, everything falls apart, everything is difficult, be comforted in the fact that even in this difficult times, GOD STILL IS THERE TO GUIDE YOU, even through pains and sufferings – GOD WILL COMFORT YOU!!!! Meditate on this more my friends! You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. God will make us at peace with people who are against us… people who at times hated us. God will make way that they (your enemies) will learn to accept us and appreciate us… you and your enemy will dine at the same table… imagine that! My cup overflows – that speaks of overflowing spiritual blessings. SURELY GOODNESS!!! AND MERCY (LOVE)!!! Shall follow me ALL THE DAYS OF MY LIFE… amen. We are not perfect – we need his mercy and love and we will eventually receive God’s GOOD plan and purpose in our lives as we SUBMIT everything to HIM… and we will be with him and dwell in his house forever! AMEN
